Foster
Help Us Save a Shepherd by Fostering Rory was scheduled to die on Sunday. A healthy, one year old dog, he had run out of time at the shelter. But Rescue got him out on Saturday and took him to a foster home. Whew! Rory in now alive and well in his new permanent home. We take as many adoptable dogs as we can from local shelters, but if we do not have a foster home available, we must leave the dog behind to an uncertain fate. You can help by offering one of these great dogs a short-term foster home. Some of our Fosterers work as a team, sharing the dog between two homes. The typical length of stay in a foster home is two weeks to two months. We ask Fosterers to give the dog a safe place to regain confidence and teach him/ her some basic house manners. We also ask that Fosterers observe the personality and temperament of their dog, and relay that information to Rescue. These insights help us find the right permanent home for him/her. Rescue pays all vet bills and provides food, ID tags, collar and a crate. We also provide support, encouragement and mentoring. Our Fosterers report they feel great satisfaction knowing they have helped save the life of one of these beautiful creatures. They also get a lot of pleasure working with and learning about their dogs. Shelters have advised us they have dogs, which they believe are pure-bred shepherds, available for adoption directly from the shelter. We have not seen or evaluated these dogs but list them here as a service. If you are interested, contact the shelter directly and make arrangements to see the dogs. Mentioning you saw the dog here will be helpful. If you adopt one of these dogs, our SIS volunteers would appreciate a note to PO Box 7693 San Jose, CA 95150 :: Put a future in a Rescue Dog's life! Adopt, foster, or donate today. |
